750 Main Street East, Mayville, North Dakota

Greetings from “The Home” front …

It has been a busy week here at LMH – On Monday, the bus putt putted its way to Hatton to see the sights.  The residents enjoyed seeing the Ben Eielson museum plus all the beautiful homes with their well-kept lawns and flowers.  There was also much excitement in the afternoon with the solar eclipse – several residents donned their special eclipse glasses and went outside to take a look.  There were oohs and aahs all around.  Thank you to Kaye Kvislens son who got Solar Eclipse glasses for us to share! Tuesday was the Auxiliary Birthday party with Elm River as the hostess.  The ladies served yummy angel food cake and as a special musical treat their Pastor  played the French horn.  We also had a nice sing along.  We tried a new word association game Wednesday morning and then the crafty ladies (and men) made a pretty butterfly greeting card during crafts in the afternoon. With all the nice weather we are still enjoying activities in the courtyard – this Wednesday we had ice tea on the patio.  Thursday its choir, pretty nails and reading.  The American Legion/VFW will be here Friday for “real” bingo – I’m sure we’ll fill the dining room for that one.  There is Kaffee Hus on Saturday along with an old fashioned spelling bee.  Our Saturday movie matinee at 2 p.m. is “Joey & Rory Country Classics – A Tapestry of Musical Heritage.”  This famous duo sings many old time favorites such as Coat of Many Colors, Rocky Top and Paper Roses.  If you like classic country, then this performance is for you.

Last week (while I was on vacation!) – We had a surprise visit from the State Survey team.  This was their annual visit that is required by Federal law to make sure certain requirements are met.  I am happy to report that LMH had a good survey and while the computations are not completed yet. Congratulations to all the staff and administrators who work together to make LMH the great place that it is.

Next week the bus will be going to the Clifford/Galesburg area to see the sights and how well the crops are doing. Tuesday brings Sit & Be Fit in the morning and Rhythm Band in the afternoon.  With children returning to school we will reminisce about that Empty Nest on Wednesday morning and play Bunco in the afternoon.  There will also be lemonade on the patio.  There is Name That Tune on Thursday morning and Kitchen Cappers in the afternoon.  I am not sure what our resident cooks will be making, but no doubt it will be something yummy.  There is bingo Thursday evening.  Friday is September 1st already – can you believe it!!!

Again, a reminder that our Fall Festival is coming up in October – raffle tickets are on sale from any auxiliary member or at the LMH reception desk.  Tickets are only $1.00 and we have some great prizes.

Residents Margaret Larson and LaVerne “Lovey” Aamold have birthdays coming up next week.  Margaret on August 27th and Lovey on the 29th.  Two Sun Center residents are also celebrating their special day – LaVonne Christianson on August 27 and Joan Simengaard on August 31st.  Staff member  Samantha Wilson has a birthday August 26th, Joan Gorres  August 29 and Terri Holm on August 31.  Happy Birthday to all of you!!

Until next time … a thought for the week … Happiness is not the absence of problems but the ability to deal with them.   Make it a great week!
