It is a busier than usual time around LMH - this week the staff is busy decorating and it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!! We want to be especially “gussied up” for our annual Hanging of the Greens on Sunday. We have lots of special events and activities planned for the next few weeks leading up to December 25th.
In addition to holiday decorating this week we had newscurrents on Monday morning and played bingo in the evening. Tuesday brought Sit & Be Fit in the morning and the Auxiliary Birthday Party was in the afternoon. Ebenezer was the hostess – they served ice cream and wafers and sang beautiful songs for our residents. The residents made “Snowman Soup” on Wednesday – I am not going to reveal its ingredients – only to tell you that it is delicious and will be available for sale on Sunday at the Hanging of the Greens bake sale. You will really want to try it and then buy some for stocking stuffers. Mary and her gang of quilters spent the afternoon with us – the gang and residents worked on special fleece baby blankets that will be donated to the WIC program. There is choir on Thursday, a Christmas video in the afternoon and bingo in the evening. After church on Friday the residents made Christmas cards during crafts. Pretty nails finished out the afternoon. There is bingo on Saturday in the activity room at 2 p.m. and Kaffee Hus in the dining room from 2-3:30. Our Saturday movie matinee at 3 p.m. is “It’s a Wonderful Life” – what a great Christmas classic!
Our big event on Sunday is Hanging of the Greens at 2 p.m. There will be a bake sale sponsored by the auxiliary, special music by Jason & Cherie Korsmo, and refreshments will be served from the activity room. This is also a time for the friends and family of residents to come and help decorate their loved ones room. The is an annual event that you won’t want to miss. Hope to see you there!
Our tree of lights dedication ornaments are now available for sale. It is a wonderful way to honor a special someone. Blue $5, Red $10, Green $20, Silver $50 and Gold $100. You can purchase at the receptionist desk or mail your order to LMH 750 Main St East Mayville 58257.
Next week we start off with newscurrents on Monday morning and Sandy Braaten will be here in the afternoon to do a painting demonstration. Sandy does those fun painting classes and even the worst artist can turn out a VanGogh. Should be a fun time! Tuesday there is Sit & Be Fit in the morning and Jingle Bell Rhythm Band in the afternoon. OH MY – Wednesday brings our 20th annual Cookie Sampler. The staff provide homemade cookies and the residents get to sample them at a party in the dining room. This annual event has been enjoyed for the last 20 years – it’s quite a tradition. On Wednesday morning we are also offering our residents a chance to have their photo taken in a holiday setting – they will then be able to have copies to send to friends and family for Christmas. There will be a Pearl Harbor Day Remembrance on Thursday morning and we have a special musical performance by the Pollywog Music Club in the afternoon. Friday brings several events – at Church we will have a Blue Christmas Remembrance. It is a chance for residents, staff, families and community to remember and honor our LMH residents and Sun Center Tenants that have passed away in 2017. Everyone is welcome to attend. And in conjunction with the MayPort WinterFest – we invite the community to come and join us for Bingo at 2 p.m. The America Legion/VFW will be assisting us and we will serve cookies and coffee following. Please come and have some fun!
On Monday December 11th at 6:30 p.m. the Traill Co. veterans Remembrance Service will be held in our chapel. It is a chance to remember our veterans who have passed away. Everyone is welcome to attend and there will be refreshments following the program.
Our staff is competing in a Door Decorating Contest – they have “adopted” a resident’s door and are busy decorating it in holiday theme. RN Genelle Dale is also collecting toys for less fortunate children – please deliver them to Genelle by December 8th.
We have one resident birthday next week – Happy Birthday to John Gotteberg who celebrates his special day on December 4th. Sun Center resident Marian Johnson has a birthday on December 5th. We have several Staff members with December birthdays – Mary Turpin (Dec 4), Jeanne Walden, Terri Weixel and Arlys Balstad all on December 7th and Susan Cheatley on December 8th. Happy Birthday and Best Wishes to all of you. Enjoy your special day!
Our sympathy to the friends and family of Dorothy Bennett who passed away November 24th. Dorothy enjoyed visiting with staff, musical events, crafting and helping to bake. Rest in Peace Dorothy.
